In the co-op game, you’ll need to play with someone with another copy of the game and a way to communicate with each other. One of you will play in The Past while the other will choose The Future.
Together as a team, you will work in the point-and-click adventure, to solve the mysteries surrounding Albert Vanderboom in a digital escape room.
Both players will also experience their dimensions in 2D and 3D, another first for any Rusty Lake game that adds a new challenge. The 3D environments look great and fit right into the spooky world.
The game contains two chapters and has an average playtime of around two hours. For the best experience, you should replay the game from the other perspective to see everything you missed the first time.
There is also a replayability for a fresh start that provides completely new solutions to all puzzles.
The Past Within is designed for the iPhone and all iPad models. You can download it now on the App Store for $2.99.
You can play with other on other platforms as the game is also available on Google Play and Steam. It will be released on the Nintendo Switch sometime in the future.
If you’re looking for someone to play with, you can also find a partner on the game’s official Discord server.
Even if this is you’re first Rusty Lake game, there’s no need to worry. You don’t need any other prior knowledge of the series.
But if you’re a long-time fan of the Rusty Lake franchise, you’ll find something new in the The Past Within. Along with the great co-op play, the 3D graphics are definitely worth the price of admission.
